ISO 9001:2015 vs ISO 9001:2026 — key changes

Publisher: ConsultHQ

Why the comparison makes sense

Companies that have worked according to ISO 9001:2015 for years already have processes, records and experience in internal audits. The new edition should not be seen as a reason to start all over again. It is necessary to determine which practices already meet the requirements, and where a clearer approach is expected.

Topics highlighted by ISO

According to ISO information, the 2026 edition clarifies wording, emphasizes leadership and quality culture, and more clearly separates risk work from opportunity recognition. Alignment with other management system standards can help organizations with an integrated system.

How to compare your own system

Create a process map and existing evidence, then compare it with the new requirements. Talk to process owners about how decisions are made in practice. For each identified deficiency, determine the responsibility, deadline and method of verification. It is not enough to just change the issue number in the document.

What not to assume

The exact scope of the transition and the conditions of certification depend on the existing system and plan of the competent certification body. Deadlines and expectations should be checked directly, rather than relying on a blanket claim from the internet.
